There is nothing like the excitement of a BRAND NEW yarn release*, but does the new *Lion Brand Cottino actually live up to the hype? I had high hopes for this unique 50/50 blend—I was looking for that “holy grail” combo of cotton breathability and wool elasticity. I’ll be honest: if I had felt this in the store, I never would have bought it. My first impression was a total letdown. But as one of the first to put the *Sedona* colorway to the test with a 4mm hook, I’m here to tell you if it won me over or if it’s a brand-new dud.
- Yarn: Cottino
- Colorway: Sedona
- Where to Buy: LionBrand.com
- Hook Size Used: 4mm
Ribbet-o-Meter:
- Fiber Content (4/5): A modern 50/50 blend that sounds perfect on paper for year-round crafting.
- Feel (3/5): It lacks that “wow” softness out of the gate; definitely not what I expected for a new release.
- Color Range (3/5): Since it’s new, the palette is still growing, but Sedona is the clear standout for now.
- Splitting (4/5): It’s surprisingly high-quality and didn’t fight my hook at all.
- Stitch Definition (5/5): This is where it shines—it might be the best definition I’ve seen in a new yarn this year.
- Drape (3/5): Quite structured; don’t expect a liquid-like hang from this blend.
- Frogability (4/5): Easy to work with, even when you make a mistake.
- Washability (3.5/5): Some care required
- Price (4/5): Very competitive for a new wool blend on the market.
- Warnings or Concerns (-1): Only available online
*Overall Verdict: 3.6/5*
